When is Black Friday 2024? (2024)

Black Friday has a late start in 2024 – falling on November 29. Based on this date, and past shopping trends, here's what we predict we'll see during the Black Friday 2024 shopping season.

Are you wondering what day Black Friday falls on this year? The major shopping holiday always takes place the day after Thanksgiving, which means it's on Friday, November 29 in 2024 – the fourth Friday in November.

Given that we are several months away from Black Friday 2024, it's hard to predict what will happen during the biggest shopping day of the year. However, based on previous Black Fridays, we were able to make some predictions.

Black Friday 2024 predictions

Here are some shopping trends we expect to see this Black Friday.

1. Sales continue to start early in the season

The "Black Friday creep" that we've witnessed over the past few years is not going anywhere. We anticipate that most retailers will once again host "pre" Black Friday sales starting in October, as we've seen in past years. In November, however, it will be interesting to see what date retailers decide to launch their "official" Black Friday sales. Black Friday takes place at the end of the month this year – almost a week later than 2023. While most retailers like to stick to the traditional Thanksgiving timeline, and kick off sales just a couple of days before turkey day, they might need to make it a two-week affair this year.

2. More mobile and app shopping

Retailers have been working hard to improve their online mobile shopping experiences, and it seems to be paying off. Each year, the number of sales placed on mobile devices during Cyber Week (the time between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday) seems to grow. According to Adobe Analytics Insights, in 2023, 59% of online sales came through via smartphone (compared to 55% in 2022). Because this area of shopping is growing, we are starting to see retailers offer more exclusive discounts for shoppers who use their apps as well.

3. Retail memberships center stage

Black Friday shopping perks for those with retailer memberships has been a growing trend over the past few years.

Last year, we saw Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart all offer exclusive access to deals to those who are part of their paid membership programs. Target, on the other hand, did have exclusive access to deals available to members of its rewards program (Target Circle), this program is completely free to join, so anyone could take part.

This is where we could see a slight change in 2024. It has been reported that Target is considering launching a paid membership program this year, but nothing is set in stone yet. Beyond Target, it is possible that other retailers will launch paid membership programs in 2024 – that provide exclusive or early access to Black Friday deals; we will have to wait and see.

4. Buy now, pay later programs are more popular

We predicted that buy now, pay later programs would increase in popularity during Black Friday 2023 – and they did. According to Adobe Analytics Insights, buy now, pay later spending rose 42.5% year over year. We expect this trend to continue throughout 2024 and into the Black Friday shopping season in 2024.

What the Black Friday 2024 season holds remains to be seen. We will be sharing all the latest news and insight surrounding Black Friday 2024 to guarantee you get the best deals possible.
