Making Cream Cheese Mints

Mix the powder sugar, flavoring, cream cheese, and coloring together with a mixer. The mixture will form a ball. It should be the consistency of stiff playdough. Roll cream cheese mixture into small balls. Roll balls in the granulated sugar to coat.

The great thing about these mints is you can flavor them as you wish. You can use a traditional peppermint extract, but have fun with it and use your favorite flavoring.

When adding the flavoring you just need a couple of drops. If you want a stronger flavor add to the flavoring to taste.

The same goes for the food coloring. Just add a couple of drops initially and add more if you want a darker color.

Press the sugar-coated ball into the rubber mint mold. Immediately turn the mold over and gently flex so mint falls from the mold. Sometimes if the mixture gets too warm it will not release well. Chill the mixture before proceeding. Sometimes during the process, the mold might become sticky causing the mints to not easily release from the mold. Wash and dry the mold and begin again.

How to store cream cheese mints

Place mints in an airtight container in single layers. Place parchment paper or wax paper between each layer. Keep mints for up to two weeks in the refrigerator or up to three months in the freezer.

Before serving allow mints to come to room temperature before opening the container. Cream cheese mints can be left out of the refrigerator for a few hours. They will form a crust on the outside but will be smooth and creamy on the inside. Delicious!
